What Is Molly?
Molly is the powdered or crystalized form of the drug MDMA, also known as Ecstasy. Ecstasy is normally sold in the form of small colored pills, usually with the imprint of a logo or a cartoon or other character. Molly is sold in capsule form or simply as a powder in a small plastic bag. The full chemical name of MDMA is 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine.
Typically if a loved one is abusing Molly, they will experience mood swings, erratic sleep patterns, stay out long hours in the evening, and while on the drug enlarged pupils can be present. Taking the drug long term can have major effects on the brain chemistry including the neurotransmitter Serotonin. Anyone addicted to Ecstasy/Molly is in need of immediate drug rehabilitation service. Holly Conklin and the team at Angel Intervention are experienced in helping families get through to loved ones that are addicted to drugs or alcohol. Certified Intervention services, as well as referral to treatment programs, are available as a resource to assist users and their families in the recovery process. The Dangers Of Molly Addiction
Compounding the risks of Molly use is the fact that the ecstasy tablets or even capsules of supposedly pure Molly, sometimes include compounds of other drugs or synthetic toxic substances. These may include ephedrine (a stimulant), Dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), ketamine, caffeine, cocaine, methamphetamine, or even, more recently, synthetic cathinone (the psychoactive ingredient in “bath salts”). These compounds are harmful alone and can be deadly when Molly is added. If the Molly or Ecstasy is mixed with these compounds, even more, harmful health effects can take place if the user also uses alcohol or marijuana, which is common in the party scene. Additionally, the sexual effects of Molly and its use in sexually charged contexts (especially when combined with other compounds) often encourage unsafe sex, which is a risk factor for contracting or spreading HIV and Hepatitis.
How Molly is used
Typically the Drug is a powdery substance which is served in a capsule or tablet. The popular term Molly (slang for “molecular”) refers to the pure crystalline powder form of MDMA, usually sold in capsules or snorted. Taking one dose of the Drug or Ecstasy can result in a high lasting 3 to 6 hours, but often the user will ingest additional doses to keep the buzz going. This drug is commonly taken in combination with other illegal drugs. For example, some urban men report using MDMA as part of a multiple drug experience including cocaine, GHB, methamphetamine, ketamine, and the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
Molly (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), “popularly known as ecstasy or, more recently, as Molly, is a synthetic, The National Institute on drug abuse states that it is psychoactive drug that has similarities to both the stimulant amphetamine, and the hallucinogen mescaline. It produces feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth and empathy towards others, as well as distortions in sensory and time perception.”
The Drug was initially popular with white underage teens and young adults who attended long overnight dance parties called “raves” to use the drug. Over time, however, the drug has become increasingly popular leading to makers obtaining pill presses and using whatever means needed to make more MDMA . Ecstasy is a popular form of drug containing MDMA and often combined with drugs like cocaine, heroin, psychiatric medications or other synthetic additives to make the pills more cost-effective to the maker.
