Meth Epidemic in Ohio
Meth Epidemic is on the rise in Ohio according to OSAM ( Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring) Opioid prescriptions are falling throughout Ohio, methamphetamine remains widely available in the state. Meth availability increased in most areas across Ohio except for the Athens region. Participants in the report noted that meth’s “lower price and longer-lasting high compared to crack cocaine” were the main drivers behind the widespread availability of the drug. The Meth Epidemic is estimated to get even higher and worst because the effect that meth users are looking for is a kind of intense pleasure called euphoria. Euphoria is the enticing feeling that underlies the development of addictions for most people who experience them, and is typically the reason that most recreational drug users take these substances. Meth stimulates the brain in the same way that a real accomplishment does, creating a rewarding feeling that motivates people who get addicted to meth to want to do it again and again.
Meth is making a comeback because its cheaper and stronger than Cocaine or crack cocaine. Meths effect can last up to 7 hours, giving the user a sense of euphoria, making the meth epidemic to grow higher and higher every day. In certain Lab test done on Meth, other drugs have been found laced with Meth. Drugs like fentanyl & carfentanil have been found mixed with drug, Making this a very dangerous mix, killing hundreds every day. Fentanyl has also been found laced in other drugs such as Cocaine and even Marijuana.
