What is an I.O.P (Intensive OutPatient Program)
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are programs for individuals who are not deemed fit for residential programs or for those discharged from inpatient treatment and needing continued care. IOPs are shown to have comparable abstinence rates with inpatient treatment programs and allow individuals to continue their treatment and apply it in their home environments.
IOPs are shown to be almost equally as effective as outpatient programs. At 6 months after treatment, the drug abstinence rates between outpatient and inpatient programs are nearly equal. This effect is generally true across most settings and between multiple treatment centers. The only difference in the statistics of treatment efficiency is the fact that IOPs are shown to not have any specific group of people that benefit more from them, while outpatient programs are shown to yield better results with certain demographics. Based on this evidence, it is plausible to conclude that IOPs are effective treatment plans.
IOPs, while effective on their own, are shown to be more effective when used as continued treatment out of an inpatient treatment facility. Results show that when IOPs are used after residential treatment, it is often extremely effective, sometimes more so than IOPs alone, this is because the problem was deemed bad enough to be put into a residential program and then the individual continued their care in an IOP. This shows that IOPs are an important part of continued care after an initial stay at an inpatient treatment facility, continued care is proven to lower relapse rates in people in recovery.
In summary, IOPs are effective treatment plans. They are shown to have comparable results to outpatient programs and are also proven to be a way for people to continue care while still residing in their own home. If you have any questions about our I.O.P please call us Toll Free 1-800-430-29956
